Make a small edit in the WordPress block editor

The block editor builds page content from individual pieces such as paragraphs, headings, images and buttons. For a small edit, select the existing piece and change only what is needed. The page editor is different from the Site Editor, where templates and shared parts can affect several pages.

Before you start

  • Keep a copy of the current wording and the approved replacement.
  • Open the correct page as an authorised editor.
  • Check whether somebody else is editing the same content.

What to do

  1. Confirm you are editing page content

Open the intended page or post and identify its title. If the interface shows a shared header, template or whole-site design, stop and return to the individual content editor. Changing a template can have a much wider effect than correcting one paragraph.

  2. Select the existing block

Click the paragraph, heading or image that needs attention. Use List View when nested groups make selection difficult. Check the selected block’s name before typing; a highlighted container may include several items you did not intend to replace.

  3. Make the smallest useful change

Replace the words or choose the correct image using the block’s controls. Keep headings as headings rather than imitating them with bold paragraphs. Avoid unfamiliar code options, pattern replacements or global style changes for a simple content correction.

  4. Preview and save deliberately

Review the edited section, nearby spacing and links at wide and narrow sizes. New unpublished content can remain a draft. Do not switch an existing public page to draft just to hold an edit. Use its final Save, Update or Publish action only when you intend the reviewed change to become public.

What to check

  • Only the intended content changed.
  • The page still has useful headings and readable spacing.
  • The saved or published result matches the version you reviewed.
