Use Wix site history without losing newer work
Wix site history records editor saves and publications and can help you inspect or restore an earlier site version. Restoring a version can discard later editor changes, while some elements are not affected by restoration. Treat it as a targeted recovery decision, not a universal undo for every part of the business.
Before you start
- Ask collaborators to pause work while you inspect the history.
- Record the current version and any recent content you need to retain.
- Identify the time before the unwanted change and which parts of the site were affected.
What to do
Open history and inspect first
In Wix Editor, Site then Site History leads to the version history. The dashboard offers another route. Open the candidate revision for review rather than immediately restoring it. Check the date, collaborator and whether it was saved or published.
Compare the useful and unwanted changes
Look beyond the obvious broken section. An earlier version may contain old opening hours, prices or unfinished work elsewhere. Write down what would need to be retained from the current version, and consider whether manually correcting one element is simpler.
Check the recovery boundary
Read Wix’s notes about elements not affected by restoring that version. Do not assume app data, transactions or external records will travel backwards with the page design. If those systems are involved, ask the relevant provider how their own recovery works.
Restore only an agreed version
When the owner has approved the exact recovery, follow the restore controls and inspect the result before any live publication. Reapply any approved later corrections deliberately. Then verify the public site, including areas that were not the original reason for restoring.
What to check
- Required newer wording and changes have not been lost.
- The editor and public site versions are understood separately.
- Any app or customer-data issue has its own recovery check.
