Check a Squarespace page on mobile
Squarespace’s device preview is useful, but it is not an exact simulation of every phone. Check the published page on a real device as well. Fluid Engine allows separate mobile arrangement of blocks; other editing systems behave differently. Identify the section’s editor before assuming a mobile adjustment will leave desktop untouched.
Before you start
- Choose one page and note the phone and browser showing the problem.
- Take screenshots of the current mobile and desktop layouts.
- Identify whether the affected section uses Fluid Engine or another editor.
What to do
Walk through the customer’s task
On a phone, start at the top and try an ordinary journey such as finding the menu or reading a service description. Look for clipped words, unexpected blank space, tiny controls and content hidden by fixed elements. Record the exact section instead of describing the whole site as broken.
Compare with device preview
Open the same page in Squarespace’s device view and find the matching area. If preview looks fine, retain the real-phone evidence rather than dismissing it. A long heading, loaded font or browser-specific behaviour may reveal a problem that one simulated width does not show.
Make one small layout correction
In a Fluid Engine section, adjust the mobile arrangement using its mobile editing view. With other section types, check how the change affects desktop before saving. Prefer a clear reading order and sensible spacing over squeezing every desktop arrangement into a narrow screen.
Recheck both sizes
Inspect the authorised published change on the phone, then revisit the desktop page. Try another narrow width or rotate the device if useful. Check nearby buttons and the footer; solving one overlap can create a different obstruction further down the page.
What to check
- The intended reading order is clear on the actual phone.
- Text and primary controls are visible without horizontal dragging.
- The desktop layout still works after the mobile adjustment.
