Know the limits of Squarespace code injection
Squarespace code injection adds HTML or scripts in supported locations; it is not unrestricted control of the entire platform. Availability depends on the plan, and checkout pages do not support injected code. Use normal page tools for content and the appropriate style tools for design before considering a script that runs across the site.
Useful context
- Describe the exact result you need in plain English.
- Identify the script provider and why the built-in tools are insufficient.
- Keep a private copy of existing settings without exposing any secrets.
How it works
Check the supported route
Look for a built-in integration or block that performs the required task. For example, an ordinary booking link may meet your needs without a site-wide script. Read the current Squarespace documentation for your plan and target page instead of assuming instructions from an older site still apply.
Understand the script’s reach
Header and footer injection can run across many pages. Ask what information the script reads, where it sends data and whether it creates cookies or other storage. Do not paste code that asks for secret API keys into customer-visible website settings.
Avoid competing installations
Before adding analytics, chat or another widget, check whether it already exists through an integration, page block or previous injection. Two copies can create duplicate events or overlapping controls. Keep a simple record naming the provider, intended location and person responsible for maintenance.
Review before and after an authorised change
Have unfamiliar code assessed before using it on a live site. After an approved installation, check ordinary pages, mobile layout and the relevant consent choices. Verify the actual feature, not merely the presence of its icon, and retain a clear method for removing only the new addition.
What to check
- The feature is supported on the current plan and target pages.
- No duplicate installation or exposed secret was introduced.
- The site remains usable and tracking follows the intended consent choices.
