A simple monthly website health check
A short regular review helps you notice outdated information and obvious customer-facing faults before they linger. You can perform these checks yourself using the normal website and your own business records. A monthly routine is a practical suggestion, not a substitute for the maintenance your particular platform needs.
Before you start
- Keep a small list of important pages and the main customer journey.
- Use a change log for the date, observation, action and person responsible.
What to do
Read the information customers rely on
Check opening hours, prices, services, contact details and current offers. Open relevant downloads as well as pages. A menu updated in the editor but linked to last year's PDF is still a customer problem, so follow the route rather than reviewing text in isolation.
Walk the important journey
Use a phone and larger screen where available to check navigation and key destinations. Look for new overlaps, missing images or blocked controls. Plan any form-delivery test with the receiving person and use clearly labelled details; do not create unwanted bookings or charges.
Review ownership and dependencies
Check upcoming renewals in your private records and confirm who handles maintenance and backups. Note changes to staff or supplier access. Do not renew an unfamiliar invoice automatically or cancel a bundled account without understanding which website, email or domain service depends on it.
Choose a small follow-up list
Separate urgent customer-facing faults from future improvements. Give each issue a page reference and expected outcome. Review search or analytics observations only with their measurement limits understood, and use actual enquiry records to confirm whether the business's contact route is functioning.
What to check
- The public information matches approved business facts and current dates.
- Important routes were checked, with any test submissions authorised.
- Open issues have clear owners rather than disappearing into scattered messages.
