Prepare a website brief for your trade business

A strong trades website helps someone decide whether you do their job, work in their area and offer a sensible way to request help. Your brief should make those decisions easy using real business facts, not a long list of broad claims.

Before you start

  • The exact business name, current website and approved contact details.
  • A short list of your main services and the areas you genuinely cover.
  • Permission-backed job photographs and evidence for any credentials you want shown.

What to do

  1. Describe the jobs you want

Name your three or four most important services and give an example of a suitable job for each. Separate services you deliver yourself from work you do not take on. This helps the website explain your offer without creating enquiries for unsuitable projects.

  2. Be precise about coverage and availability

State your real working area and any practical travel limits. Tell us whether customers should call, request a quote or book through an existing tool. Only claim emergency, same-day or round-the-clock availability if that is genuinely how your business operates.

  3. Prepare useful evidence

Label photographs with the type of work and the outcome you can verify. Remove private addresses, vehicle details or other identifying information where publication is not agreed. Supply current accreditation details for checking; do not expect a logo alone to establish an approved claim.

  4. Define a manageable enquiry

Choose the information needed to assess a job, such as the service, broad location and a short description. Avoid collecting unnecessary personal information. State the correct receiving inbox and who can confirm an authorised test message when form work is part of the purchase.

What to check

  • Each service and area statement reflects work you actually offer.
  • Project images and testimonials have the necessary publication permission.
  • The main contact route goes to a channel you regularly monitor.
