Update opening hours everywhere customers look

An opening-hours update is complete only when the important customer-facing versions agree. The homepage, footer, contact page, booking tool and business listing may each hold a separate copy. Start from one approved schedule, distinguish regular hours from temporary exceptions and give date-specific changes an obvious start and end.

Before you start

  • Confirm the exact days, times and date when the change takes effect.
  • Clarify whether the hours refer to premises, phone support, kitchen service or appointments.
  • List the website pages and external profiles the business actually controls.

What to do

  1. Write one unambiguous schedule

Use consistent time formatting and spell out exceptions. A café might have different kitchen and premises hours; a tradesperson might take calls during office hours without offering a walk-in location. Avoid wording such as Open as usual when a visitor does not know what usual means.

  2. Find every website copy

Check the homepage, footer, contact page, visit page, menu downloads and any notice bar. Search the site for a distinctive old closing time as an extra check. Update the shared source where your editor uses one, then verify that pages using it actually display the new information.

  3. Review relevant external destinations

If the business already has an eligible Google Business Profile, review its hours separately; a website edit does not guarantee that listing updates. Google provides special hours for date-specific exceptions. Check booking availability and other controlled profiles too, without inventing opening hours for a service that does not operate a public premises.

  4. Check now and plan the removal

Read the published information as a customer planning a specific visit or call. Check a phone as well as desktop. For a holiday notice, record when it should be removed or replaced and who will do that. Keep the regular schedule visible where a temporary banner might otherwise create confusion.

What to check

  • Regular hours and dated exceptions are clearly distinguished.
  • Important website and controlled listing copies agree.
  • Temporary notices have a named owner and a removal date.
