Make menus and price lists readable on a phone

Customers should be able to find an item and its price without pinching a photograph of a printed menu. Use real page text for the main list where your platform supports it. A downloadable version can be useful as an extra, but it should not be the only practical way to understand your offer.

Before you start

  • Prepare one approved list of item names, descriptions, sizes and prices.
  • Confirm which list is current and whether its availability changes by day or time.
  • For PresGro’s listed service, keep the scope to one existing page and up to 30 supplied items.

What to do

  1. Group items for the customer

Use short, recognisable sections such as breakfast, hot drinks or hair treatments. Keep the order logical rather than copying a complicated print layout. Put any different service times near the relevant section so customers do not need to search for an explanation.

  2. Keep prices beside the right item

Provide the full price and explain any genuine variants using consistent wording. A short description can clarify what is included. Do not leave the website editor to guess whether a number is a starting price, a deposit or the complete charge.

  3. Make the list usable as text

Use headings and readable rows instead of one large image containing all the words. Text can adapt more usefully to different screens. If you also offer a PDF, label the link clearly and check that the file matches the approved page content.

  4. Check the route from the homepage

Find the menu using the normal navigation on a phone. Read a long item name and its price, follow any booking link, and check whether a sticky banner covers the final entries. Repeat the check whenever an old menu file is replaced.

What to check

  • Names, prices and stated availability match the approved source document.
  • The list remains understandable without interpreting colour alone or a tiny image.
  • Menu links and downloads lead to the current version, not an old attachment.
