Keep your business name consistent online
Consistent business naming helps customers recognise that your pages, messages and listings belong to the same business. Use the genuine trading identity and distinguish it from any required legal seller information. Consistency is a clarity task, not permission to invent a larger organisation or extra locations.
Before you start
- Write down the approved trading name and any separately required legal wording.
- List the website, public profiles and documents your business actually controls.
What to do
Create a short naming reference
Record the preferred spelling, capitalisation and website address. Include a note about any old name still recognised by customers. For example, decide whether an ampersand is part of the brand rather than alternating it randomly across the header, invoices and booking links.
Review high-visibility locations
Check the website logo text, page titles, footer, contact information and linked booking destination. Search your own content for previous names. A customer should not click through from a current brand to an unexplained older business identity and wonder whether they reached the wrong supplier.
Keep search signals honest
Google can use homepage information and supported site-name structured data when deciding how to describe a site. Ask the developer to keep those signals consistent with the visible brand. Do not add false office addresses or long keyword lists as supposed business names.
Document changes beyond the website
Update profiles and materials you control where appropriate, keeping account ownership and any provider verification requirements intact. If a listing belongs to another organisation, request a correction rather than impersonating its owner. Keep a record so future edits use the same approved identity.
What to check
- Visitors see a recognisable name across the main customer journey.
- The trading brand is not confused with an unverified legal seller.
- Old names and linked destinations have been reviewed deliberately.
