Wix site owner and collaborator are not the same
A Wix collaborator works on a site through assigned permissions. The site owner controls the ownership relationship, while billing and connected services can introduce separate responsibilities. Being able to edit a homepage does not prove you own its domain or can manage every subscription. Check the actual roles instead of assuming access means ownership.
Useful context
- Identify the business that should control the site and domain.
- Find the current site owner and the account paying relevant subscriptions.
- Write down the task a proposed collaborator needs to perform.
How it works
Inspect current roles
Review the site’s Roles & Permissions rather than relying on a saved login. Record the named owner and other people with access. A role labelled Admin or Co-Owner still needs to be understood through Wix’s permission details; the label alone does not describe every billing or transfer capability.
Separate site and service control
Check domain registration, mailbox accounts and payment services individually. They may not follow the website editor’s permissions. For a business handover, keep a private record of who can renew, recover and administer each service without collecting everybody’s passwords.
Use collaboration for ordinary work
If somebody is correcting content or design, assign suitable collaborator permissions instead of transferring the whole site. Start with the needed task and expand access only for a clear reason. Keep your own business-controlled sign-in available throughout the work.
Treat ownership transfer as a separate handover
A genuine ownership transfer needs agreement about billing, domains, mailboxes and any permissions retained afterwards. Read Wix’s current transfer conditions for that site type. Confirm the receiving business account before initiating anything, and verify the final roles after an agreed transfer.
What to check
- The intended business can identify and reach the actual site owner.
- Collaborators have only the permissions needed for their work.
- Domain and subscription responsibilities are documented separately.
