Fix a Wix button’s destination
A Wix button needs a destination as well as a label. Its link can lead to a site page, web address, document, email or phone number. Pick the matching link type rather than pasting everything into a generic URL field. A button that looks clickable may still be unconfigured or point somewhere outdated.
Before you start
- Write down the button’s page, current label and intended destination.
- Check the destination itself opens or the phone number is correct.
- Confirm that you have permission to edit and publish this site.
What to do
Select the right button
Open the relevant page in Wix Editor and select the actual button, not its surrounding section. Record the existing link before changing it. If similar buttons appear in the header and page body, check whether both need the same correction.
Choose the appropriate link type
Open the button’s Link control and choose Page, Web address, Document, Email or Phone number as appropriate. For an internal page, use the supported page selection when possible. For an external booking tool, use the public booking address rather than its management dashboard.
Make the label match the action
Use a clear description such as View our menu or Email the team. Do not label an enquiry form as Confirm booking. Check whether the link opens in the same window or a new one and avoid surprising visitors unnecessarily.
Preview and verify publicly
Use Preview to check ordinary destinations, then publish the approved site version. Open the real page on mobile and desktop. Telephone and email links can launch apps or calls, so inspect their configured details first and only complete a call or message when authorised.
What to check
- The label accurately describes the destination.
- The public button leads to the current page or tool.
- No private account URL or expired document is linked.
