Duplicate a Squarespace page carefully

Duplicating a Squarespace page can preserve a useful structure, but the copy is not automatically a private draft or a fully tested new page. Copies can appear in Not linked, where enabled content remains public. Copied names, destinations and form settings also need individual review before you treat the page as finished.

Before you start

  • Confirm the original page is a suitable starting point for the new purpose.
  • List which text, images, prices and buttons must change.
  • Choose a review method that keeps unfinished information away from customers.

What to do

  1. Create and identify the copy

Use the duplicate option supported for the page or content type. Give the copy an unmistakable working name so you do not edit the original by mistake. Check its enabled status immediately; appearing outside the main navigation is not proof that a direct link cannot reveal it.

  2. Replace meaning, not just the headline

Work through the copied page from top to bottom. A new service page may inherit an old price, location, image caption or contact instruction. Search the draft for the original service name and read every customer-facing claim instead of changing only the largest heading.

  3. Check functional elements separately

Review every button, download, booking destination and form. Squarespace notes that storage connections for duplicated form or newsletter blocks and sections need reconnecting. Inspect the copied element’s settings and agree an authorised test; a form that looks identical may not send information where you expect.

  4. Prepare the public version

Set a suitable final page title, URL and search description, then review mobile layout and incoming links. Only enable or promote the page once the information is approved. Keep the original page intact unless its separate removal or replacement has been deliberately agreed.

What to check

  • The copy’s access setting matches its readiness.
  • Old service names, prices and destinations have been removed or confirmed.
  • Copied forms and links were checked independently of appearance.
