Squarespace domain and website bills explained

A Squarespace website subscription and a domain subscription are different services. Other products, such as email or scheduling, can add separate subscriptions. Several charges from the same provider are therefore not automatically duplicates. Match each invoice to the service it funds before changing renewal settings or deciding something can safely be cancelled.

Useful context

  • Open the official account directly rather than following an unexpected billing email.
  • Gather recent invoices and the domains you actually use.
  • Identify the person authorised to change business subscriptions.

How it works

  1. Match the charge to a service

Read the invoice description and account billing details. Record whether it covers the website itself, a named domain, mailboxes or another product. A domain bill may still be valid even when the website is hosted elsewhere; the familiar provider name does not identify the service by itself.

  2. Record the renewal facts

For each subscription, note the account owner, renewal date, billing frequency and current renewal setting. Keep this list private and omit full payment-card details. If a charge does not match any authorised service, ask the provider to investigate through its official support route.

  3. Map what depends on it

Ask what would stop working if this item ended. A domain can support the website address and business email, while the website subscription powers the hosted site. For example, a plan to redesign the homepage does not by itself justify cancelling the domain that customers already recognise.

  4. Plan changes separately

If a service is genuinely being replaced, complete the relevant handover and check the replacement before cancelling the old subscription. Review each subscription individually rather than assuming one cancellation handles everything. Save the provider’s confirmation and check that essential remaining services are still active.

What to check

  • Every recognised charge has a named service and responsible owner.
  • Domain and mailbox dependencies are understood before cancellation.
  • The intended renewal setting is confirmed for each subscription.
