Why moving away from Wix needs a rebuild
A native Wix website depends on Wix’s platform and servers. It is not a folder that can simply be uploaded to a different hosting company. Moving the website away therefore means rebuilding the required pages and functions. If you only need clearer text, a menu update or a contact button, keeping Wix may be the better fit.
Before you start
- Write down why you want to move: management, design, features or another specific problem.
- List your live pages and every Wix app or external tool customers use.
- Find the accounts responsible for your domain, email and website subscription.
What to do
Separate the website from the domain
Your domain is the address; Wix provides the system behind the current website. Changing DNS does not convert a Wix site into an independently hosted site. Keep the existing address and services working while the replacement is planned.
Decide what must be retained
Record useful content, images you may reuse, popular page addresses, forms and booking routes. Flag stores, memberships and custom app behaviour explicitly. These need their own assessment and are not automatically included in a five-page brochure website.
Choose an improvement or a rebuild
Use a one-off service for a listed change within your current Wix site. Choose PresGro: Rebuild for a new managed brochure website. Refresh is not a like-for-like Wix hosting transfer, and a lower hosting bill alone does not establish the total cost of moving.
Plan the switch after approval
Agree the replacement pages, content and technical access first. Review the new website before any authorised domain change. Account for old links, email records and subscriptions separately; do not cancel Wix while customers still depend on the current site.
What to check
- Every important app or customer route has a keep, replace or exclude decision.
- You know which subscriptions will continue and which need cancellation after the move.
- The new website scope is agreed rather than assumed to duplicate every Wix feature.
