Website visitors but no enquiries: what to check

More visits do not automatically mean more suitable customers. If enquiries are low, check whether people are arriving for the service you sell, whether the page answers their questions and whether the contact route works. Treat Analytics as one piece of evidence, not a record of every real conversation.

Before you start

  • Choose a specific service page and a meaningful period rather than one unusually quiet day.
  • Define a useful enquiry for your business, such as a genuine request for work you actually accept.

What to do

  1. Check the visitor’s likely reason for arriving

Review available search queries, campaign links and the page visitors land on. Someone reading a free explanation may not be looking to buy immediately. Keep educational traffic separate from the audience of a service page before deciding that the website is attracting the wrong people.

  2. Read the page like a new customer

Can a person understand the service, who it suits, what happens next and any important limitations? A trades page might omit the jobs accepted; a café page might hide its private-hire details. Ask an uninvolved person where they would go next, without coaching them.

  3. Verify the contact route independently

Check the phone number, email destination and visible button labels. For forms, agree a clearly labelled test and confirm receipt with the inbox owner. A button click in Analytics does not prove a call connected or that a message reached somebody who can respond.

  4. Improve one clear obstacle

Fix a broken route before buying more traffic. If everything works, choose a specific clarity improvement and record when it changed. Review suitable enquiries as well as website behaviour later, keeping normal seasonal variation and business availability in mind.

What to check

  • The page is being judged against the right audience and intended action.
  • Contact destinations have been checked, not inferred from a chart.
  • The next improvement addresses an observed obstacle rather than a guessed redesign need.
