What is your browser cache?
A browser cache keeps reusable copies of website resources on your device so they do not always need to be downloaded again. Images, style files and other responses may be cached. This normally makes browsing quicker, but an outdated copy can sometimes explain why one person sees an older version of a page element.
Useful context
- Record the exact public page and the part that appears out of date.
- Check whether the website owner has actually published the expected change.
How it works
The cache is local to the browser
Two browsers on the same computer can show different results because they keep separate browsing data. Another device may also have a different copy. This comparison is useful evidence, but it does not establish the cause by itself because sign-in state and website experiments can differ too.
Caching is not the same as history
History records visited addresses. Cookies and site data can hold sign-in or preference information. Saved passwords are another category. These distinctions matter because a broad clear-everything action can remove useful information without being necessary to refresh an old logo or stylesheet.
Try a non-destructive comparison first
Reload the public page and compare it in another browser or a fresh private session. Make sure the address is identical. Avoid private account or payment-recovery links for this check because a different session may correctly show different access, even when the website works normally.
Escalate repeated stale content
If many visitors keep receiving the old material, the issue may be the website’s caching configuration or another delivery layer. Record which versions appear where. Asking every customer to clear their device is not an adequate long-term release process for a public business website.
What to check
- The expected change is confirmed as published.
- Comparisons use the same address and distinguish signed-in from public views.
- Any clearing action targets only the data actually required.
